The Power of the Unconscious Mind
First of all, when I refer to the ‘unconscious mind’ I mean the same as others mean with the term ’subconscious mind’. The reason for this is that ’sub’ has a connotation of beneath in the sense of inferior and there is nothing inferior about the unconscous mind!
So what is the role and power of the unconscious mind?
1. Store and organise our memories.
2. Is the province of our emotions.
3. Represses memories that have unresolved negative emotions adn kees them repressed for what it perceives to be our ‘protection’
4. Runs the autonomous bodily functions.
5. Follows orders from the conscious mind when the conscious and unconscious minds are in rapport.
6. Maintains our perception.
7. Responds at the habitual level.
8. Loves symbols and ritual.
9. Takes everything personally.
10. Manages the body’s energy.
As you can see, the unconscious mind has a lot to do and part of the work at transpersonal dynamics is to help the person achieve rapport between the conscious and unconscous minds. In that way, the individual can diectly access the power of their unconscious.
